Greetings lovers of armpits and cinema! The movie ROCKETMAN was recently released in theaters. Comparisons to the film BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, released last November, are no doubt taking place all over printed media and online. However, being the pit lover that I am, I decided to give my own take on the two bio pics.
THE REAL LIFE SINGERS
ROCKETMAN is about the early career of gay, British rock singer/songwriter, Elton John. Portraying the legend is Welsh actor Taron Egerton.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY covers the life of gay, British rock singer/songwriter Freddie Mercury, front man for the group QUEEN. American actor, Rami Malek earned an Oscar in 2019 for his portrayal.

As part of my preparation for this blog entry I searched and searched the Internet for a nice pic of the real Elton John's armpits and found two good photos. To my surprise, one was with legend, John Lennon, while performing a concert at Madison Square Garden (see photo below)!

Fortunately, finding pit pics of Freddie was super easy, since the sexy rocker often performed in concert wearing sleeveless outfits or without his shirt, freely exposing his armpits.

CINEMATIC REVIEW
First let me say, both movies are thoroughly entertaining and worth the full ticket price and/or rental fee. ROCKETMAN has been promoted as a "true fantasy", while BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is touted as more of a biographical pic. The films are beautiful to watch, their stories enthralling, and both soundtracks are superb! However, to me, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY has more of an edge to it, which I really like.
Taron Egerton does a great job at portraying Elton, PLUS he accomplishes the fabulous feat of singing the songs himself, unlike Rami Malek. The majority of the music in BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY relies on vocal recordings from QUEEN's master tapes of Freddie or new recordings by Canadian musician, Marc Martel.

REVIEWING THE ACTORS' PITS
Now to the reason I'm writing this entry: armpits! Taron has beautiful, light brown bushes under his arms. You can find a few pics of the cutie patootie's pits online and see them for yourself.

ARMPIT SCENES
In ROCKETMAN, the audience does get a few pit teases throughout the film from a couple of the characters. However, it only features two significant armpit scenes, both of Mr. Egerton: one at the disco, plus as he's falling to the bottom of a swimming pool. It's a bummer that these pit scenes take place during upsetting incidents on screen, which is kind of a buzz kill.
Now, if it's armpits you want, then BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is the flick to see. There are countless scenes with Mr. Malek showing off his dark and delicious, hairy hollows during powerful musical numbers!
Yes, I know most movie goers don't checkout films for the armpit shots, but baby it sure is a nice bonus for a pit lover like me!
Now as a side note, I saw on a TV interview with the head makeup artist for BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY that they had to add extra hair to Rami's chest to give him Freddie's hirsute look. --- So, I've been wondering if they also had to add to the actor's underarm strands as well? If so, I'm moving to Hollywood to get that groovy, movie industry job! 😍

Here's some nice, non-armpit related information I stumbled upon. Rami attended the New York premiere of ROCKETMAN to show his support to Taron and the film.

Another interesting bit is that Freddie and Elton were friends in real life. They even developed pet names for each other, their drag-queen alter egos: Freddie was Melina and Elton was Sharon.

AND THE AWARD GOES TO,...
While I enjoyed both movies, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY had more pits for the money, so it gets my ARMPIT FLICK PICK. --- To present the trophy, here is Australian model and former professional rugby league footballer, Nick Youngquest to do the honors. 😘
